Don't get a roborovski dwarf hamster. They are fast and never can hold them. Dwarf hamsters are generally nicer and preferer to live in company. Russian winter white hamster are quite nice and like being held.

We had a black bear hamster who was the sweetest thing and never bit. However, I do agree with the rat answer...they're AWESOME pets!
