Why do pandas have predator eyes when they are veggies?

I'm not sure what predator eyes are.. but pandas are a great example of imperfect adaptation. Although pandas use their thumbs to strip bamboo to eat, their "thumb" is just a stub (bone, really) that protrudes from the hand. It's kind of painful to watch. When animals evolved, they retained some characteristics from their ancestors, and had to develop new ones to cope with their environments. Maybe pandas evolved from creatures that were carnivores?
